Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has promised to tell Nigerians the truth about what transpired in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s 2023 presidential candidate.
Wike made the vow on Saturday in a statement by his Special Assistant, Media, Kelvin Ebiri.
The aftermath of how Wike felt following the emergence of Atiku as the PDP presidential candidate and the subsequent emergence of Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate has been shrouded in controversy but the Rivers State Governor has promised to expose everything.
He said, “On Atiku, I will speak soon and Nigerians will know the actual truth of all that has transpired in the PDP in recent times.”
It will be recalled that Wike contested the PDP presidential primaries but lost to Atiku and was subsequently overlooked for the vice presidential candidacy as well.
The Rivers State Governor had not openly said anything about what transpired since then but some of his associates and loyalists including Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State have come out to say Wike is angry with the PDP leadership as he feels cheated.
They also demanded that both Atiku and the PDP must apologize to Wike.
Amidst rumours that Wike, Ortom and others will dump the PDP over the saga of what transpired at the party’s presidential primaries, according to Ortom, the aggrieved governors have decided to remain in the main opposition party.
He, however, called on Atiku to reach out to Governor Wike for reconciliation.
Ortom noted that Wike is a big factor who remained in PDP when he and Atiku left the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Benue State Governor stated that it is not too late to resolve the crisis in the PDP.
