2027: Ogun Arewa communities throw weight behind Iyabo Obasanjo

Ogun Arewa communities have called on their members in the state to close ranks across ethnic, religious and political lines and support efforts aimed at promoting Professor Iyabo Obasanjo’s political ambitions and Ladi Adebutu for Ogun Central and state development and stability in the coming general elections.

The group also passed a vote of confidence in Prof. Obasanjo’s ambitions to become thr Ogun Central Senator, citing her good antecedent during her tenure as state Commissioner for Health, and Senator represented the Central in 2007.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Chairman, Mobilising Committee, Mr. Ibrahim Tanko, the group cautioned Senator, representing Ogun West, and All Progressives Congress (APC) Gubernatorial Candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola against actions and rehetorics incitement capable of political violence in the state.

He stressed that Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo was a woman of uncommon courage, resilience, and integrity in all ramifications, noting that she could not ask for any campaign refund, which had not started according to the 1999 electoral act as amended.

“It is a blackmailing and campaign of calumny for anyone to have said that Iyabo Obasanjo is requesting or demanding for campaign refund, which according to the statement had not been started, instead, they should prioritise constructive criticism as an essential part of democracy.

“We remain committed and resolute with Prof. Obasanjo’s ambitions to become Ogun Central Senator, as well as Hon. Ladi Adebutu to become the Ogun state governor, as both have represented the state well at the red chambers, respectively,” the Arewa Mobilising Committee Chairman said.

He urged Arewa communities and others in the state to embrace common purpose of supporting Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and all its candidates, rather than allowing intruder and non-indigenes to cajole and persuade them to his camp through money bag syndrome.

“Today, more than ever before, Arewa Communities in the must rise above money monger syndrome, cajole and campaign of calumny, so as to embrace a common vision of a united, prosperous and progressive Ogun state,” he said.

He added that "Yayi" were only looking for relevance by tagging Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo to his misfortune and campaign of calumny, noting that Ogun Central Senatorial candidate of PDP, couldn’t in anyway requested for refund of campaign that has not started.

Meanwhile, the women leaders of Liberty group, Iya Afin, Amoke Agunbiade has dissociated its group from a purported report endorsing Senator Solomon Adeola by its members for the state governorship candidate, noting that Hon. Jelili Kayode Amusan has no right to criticise Ladi Adebutu for contesting for the position via Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The women's leader stated that it was imperative to endorse “Ogun for Ogun,” not “Lagos for Ogun,” saying that Ogun State should vote for the indigene candidates instead of voting for non-indigene in the next coming elections.

According to Iya Afin Agunbiade, “It will not be under our watch that a non-indigene will be governing us. After Dapo Abiodun, they came to us through Hon. Amusan, but left us without addressing germane issues, even our leaders too, tell us not to ask questions, that’s why most of us jettisoned his camp and collapsed it to Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo’s political movement.

“Though, we will be tactical and strategic but we shouldn’t pay attention to those that are not necessary. We are a group and free to take any position just like every other group. We are not God, we are human but where we are today, we are supporting people from Ogun, not alien. It will be an insult to us in this state when we have sons and daughters, no ‘Atohunrinwa’ (stranger) will come, they will wreck our State if we allow it.”

Oyo 2027: Ex-Minister Adelabu’s supporters protest in Ibadan

Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, including supporters of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, on Thursday staged a protest in Ibadan, demanding the release of the party’s primary election results, particularly those of the governorship primary.

The protesters called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC to release the results, saying the move was necessary to safeguard the party’s future ahead of the 2027 general election.

Carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Our Votes, Our Right: Release Our Primary Results,” “We Need Primary Election Results,” “Say No to Imposition and Manipulation,” “We Demand Primary Results,” “Credible Process Builds a Stronger Party,” and “Democracy, Not Dictatorship,” the demonstrators marched through parts of Ibadan, including Molete and the APC secretariat at Oke-Ado.

Speaking to journalists during the protest, one of the demonstrators, Hajia Bello Bolanle, said the reconciliation committee recently constituted by the party would only achieve meaningful results if members were allowed to see the outcome of the primaries.

She said the protesters were simply demanding transparency from the party’s leadership, warning that the imposition of candidates could undermine the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections in Oyo State.

Bolanle appealed to the party’s national leadership to release the results of all the primary elections, including the governorship primary, in the interest of fairness and internal democracy.

“We appealed to the President an the NWC to release the results. We are here just because of the primary election that we did in Oyo state, the national body of the party are yet to released the results.

“The presidential election that we did after that, the results have been released. They should release our results in Oyo state. We don’t want imposition. They should release it and whatever may be the outcome, we will take it.”

Also, Bolarinwa Zebora said, “We are beseeching the National Working Committee to tell us where we are going in Oyo state because they have the constitutional right to tell us the voice of the people.

“The people’s voice in the Oyo State is determined by the primary election, not consensus. Because what we could see now is the consensus.

“Because if it were a primary election, we should have seen results. There is no way you will send your children to school without a result, and the teacher will tell you that he has been promoted.

“We are beseeching the chairman of the National, APC National Chairman, and the National Working Committee of the National, to please and please to avail the results of the state. Let us see the results.

“Please and please. This is not the right way of doing it. If they want consensus, they should give us consensus. We should know that this is consensus. We did primary election. Where is the result? how will you in a developed country, your say someone promoted without a result? What is the meaning of reconciliation? Reconciliation comes after primary election.

“After primary election result, where is the primary election result? Why are they constituting the reconciliation committee.”

Ekiti 2026: BVAS glitches slowing voting process, says Ojudu

Former presidential aide and ex-lawmaker, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, has raised fresh concerns about the slow pace of accreditation and voting in the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election.

Ojudu attributed the delay to malfunctions with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System.

Speaking on Saturday after casting his vote at Polling Unit 009, Ward 8, Ereguru, Ado-Ekiti, Ojudu lamented that technical issues with the BVAS machine were delaying the electoral process despite the impressive voter turnout.

Ojudu, who commended residents for turning out early to participate in the election, said many voters had arrived at the polling unit as early as 8 a.m. but were forced to endure long waits due to difficulties during accreditation.

According to him, it took election officials nearly 30 minutes to capture his fingerprints and facial details before he was accredited to vote.

“The turnout is impressive, and the people have come out en masse to exercise their civic responsibility. They are peaceful and orderly, as expected. However, the process is cumbersome,” Ojudu said.

“Before my fingerprints and photograph could be captured, it took almost 30 minutes. If it takes 30 minutes to accredit one voter, then one begins to wonder how many hours it will take for 500 people to vote.”

He disclosed that, as of 8:59 a.m., he remained the only voter to have successfully voted at the polling unit, despite dozens of voters waiting patiently to be accredited.

Ojudu blamed the delay on what he described as persistent BVAS malfunctions, warning that prolonged technical hitches could discourage voters and undermine confidence in the electoral process.

“There is clearly a problem with the system. The BVAS is malfunctioning. I don’t know what is happening in other polling units, but I am reporting directly from my polling unit,” he said.

“We have been here since around 8 a.m., and as of now, I am the only person who has voted. This is not good enough.”

He urged officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission to swiftly address the technical issues to ensure that eligible voters are not disenfranchised.

As of the time of filing this report, accreditation and voting were still ongoing at the polling unit, while many voters remained in queues awaiting their turn to cast their ballots.

 The Ekiti State Deputy Governor and deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Monisade Afuye, has commended the voters for their sense of patriotism with the way they trooped out en masse to exercise their civic responsibility in the ongoing governorship poll in the state.

In the same manner, Mrs Afuye applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies for what she described as impartiality, leading to peaceful conduct of the Ekiti governorship election across the state.

Afuye spoke after casting her ballot at Atiba/Aafin Ward 1, polling unit 003, at Ikere Ekiti, on Saturday.

Afuye, as the deputy governor, is seeking re-election on a joint ticket with her principal and sitting governor of the state, Biodun Oyebanji of the APC.

Expressing her feelings about the progress being made after voting at about 8.50am, Mrs Afuye said the turnout of voters is attesting to the fact that Nigeria’s democracy is fast maturing and developing.

Mrs Afuye appealed to political gladiators to play by the electoral rules set by INEC to keep the tempo of peace that accompanied the election from the start to the collation time.

“You can see for yourselves how people trooped out to participate in this election. Not only trooping out but being ready and anxious to participate in the voting. I am indeed impressed with this conduct of our voters.

“I am not using Ikere as the only area of focus now, we are getting the same information from some of our local governments and towns about how our voters are coming out in large numbers. I am happy about this. This shows that the rigorous campaigns that we did yield positive results.

“I have to commend the INEC as well and our security agencies. They really prepared for this election. You can see that nobody is being intimidated and I believe if we continue like this, this election may turn out being the best in Ekiti history.”

Asked to predict the outcome of the poll, Afuye said her boss, Biodun Oyebanji, has served Ekiti with every fiber in his body and is widely adjudged to have performed excellently well, exuding confidence that the APC candidate will triumph in the election.

“Governor Oyebanji is not only winning this election, it is going to be with a wide margin.”

Oyo APC split over Alli as consensus governorship candidate

The race for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State has taken a contentious turn as divisions deepen within the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the reported endorsement of Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s consensus candidate.

At a high-level leadership summit held in Samonda, Ibadan, prominent APC stakeholders announced their support for Alli, describing the move as a strategic step towards early political alignment ahead of the next general elections. The meeting, attended by party leaders across the state, was convened to deliberate on electoral strategy and chart a unified path forward.

Speaking at the gathering, Senator (Chief) Hamzat Ayo Adeseun disclosed that the endorsement followed extensive consultations among party stakeholders and was reinforced by the position of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to Adeseun, the President’s stance carries significant influence as the national leader of the APC.

“Mr President remains the leader of our party, and his opinion on who flies the party’s flag must be given due consideration,” Adeseun said, adding that Alli had already indicated interest in contesting the governorship seat prior to the endorsement.

Also speaking, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, a director at the South West Development Commission, confirmed that he had engaged with the President, whom he claimed supported Alli’s emergence as the party’s preferred candidate. Ibikunle urged other aspirants within the APC to align with the consensus decision in the interest of party unity and electoral success.

In his response, Senator Alli expressed gratitude for the endorsement, pledging to run an inclusive administration if elected. He assured party leaders and members that he would not take their support for granted.

However, the endorsement has been met with stiff resistance from other influential blocs within the party, exposing cracks in the APC’s internal cohesion in Oyo State.

Allies of the late former governor Abiola Ajimobi and supporters of Senator Teslim Folarin have distanced themselves from the development, insisting that they were neither consulted nor aware of any formal process leading to Alli’s endorsement.

Sources within these camps described the exercise as lacking legitimacy, arguing that no credible stakeholders’ meeting was convened with broad representation across the state’s geopolitical zones. They maintained that any decision taken outside such inclusive engagement cannot be binding on the party.

Party insiders went further to dismiss the endorsement as “mere child’s play”, alleging that it does not reflect the collective will of APC members in Oyo State. They emphasised that critical decisions of this magnitude must involve stakeholders from the Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa, Oyo, Ogbomoso, and Ibadan zones.

The role of some individuals at the event has also drawn criticism. Fatai Ibikunle, who was seen publicly endorsing Alli, has been questioned by some stakeholders, who argue that his actions do not carry sufficient authority to determine the party’s direction.

Additionally, party sources cautioned against linking President Tinubu to what they described as “unauthorised political theatrics”, warning that attempts to attribute endorsements to him without formal backing could mislead party members.

Further concerns were raised over the absence of the Oyo State APC chairman and members of the state executive committee from the process. Critics have labelled the exercise a “kangaroo endorsement”, alleging that it lacked institutional backing and due process.

At the centre of the dispute is the mode of selecting the party’s candidate. Several stakeholders reiterated that the APC’s established position remains the adoption of direct primaries, describing the process as sacrosanct and non-negotiable. They warned that any attempt to impose a candidate through endorsements could trigger internal resistance and jeopardise party unity.

The controversy has also unsettled other aspirants who have already purchased nomination and expression of interest forms. Many are said to be displeased with what they perceive as an attempt to confer undue advantage on a single aspirant ahead of the official primary process.

ADC will continue to be your nightmare, Dino Melaye replies Tinubu

Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will continue to pose a serious political challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Melaye made the remarks in Abuja during a press conference organised by the National Forum of Legislators within the ADC, where he criticised the current administration over insecurity and economic management.

According to him, the ADC’s growing coalition would remain a source of concern for the President because of what he described as worsening national conditions.

“Tinubu doesn’t care, and the whole world is watching to see what they will do,” Melaye said, lamenting the state of insecurity across the country.

He also questioned the Federal Government’s borrowing pattern, drawing comparisons with the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Melaye claimed that Nigeria’s debt profile has risen sharply despite the removal of fuel subsidies, challenging authorities to account for how borrowed funds have been utilised.

“With subsidy, Buhari borrowed N87 trillion in eight years. Without subsidy, Tinubu so far in three years borrowed N167 trillion. I want anybody to show me what we have done with that money,” he said.

The former lawmaker further alleged irregularities in the award of a major infrastructure project, claiming it was granted without competitive bidding. He also criticised what he described as inappropriate conduct relating to national honours and judicial matters.

Melaye accused the President of making statements capable of influencing the judiciary, particularly regarding ongoing disputes involving the ADC. He argued that no court had declared the party’s convention illegal, insisting that any such pronouncement should be left to the courts.

The Kogi ex-lawmaker dismissed suggestions that the opposition was merely attempting to intimidate the President, insisting instead that the ADC would intensify its political challenge.

“Saying that we want to scare him shows that he’s already scared—and really, we are going to scare him; we will continue to scare him,” he added.

Ajimobi’s wife denies alleged role in plot to impeach Makinde

A former First Lady of Oyo State and ambassador-designate to Austria, Dr. Florence Ajimobi, has denied allegations linking her to financial inducements allegedly aimed at influencing members of the Oyo State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde.

In a statement issued by her media office, Ajimobi described the claims as entirely false, baseless and a deliberate act of disinformation intended to tarnish her image, undermine her reputation and mislead the public.

Her reaction followed separate denials by lawmakers, including Hon. Gbenga Oyekola and the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi, who distanced themselves from any alleged plot to destabilise the state government or receive inducements from political figures.

Ajimobi also dismissed claims that she hosted or attended any meeting in Lagos or elsewhere where plans to influence the State Assembly were discussed.

Part of the statement read, “At no time did Ambassador Ajimobi convene, attend or participate in any such meeting with any individual or group for the purpose of discussing impeachment or destabilising the Oyo State Government.”

She maintained that efforts to link her to the allegations amount to malicious political propaganda designed to bring her into disrepute, particularly among the people of Oyo State and beyond.

“Activities of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State are of no concern to me. Linking me to such a plot could only be borne out of mischief and deliberate reverse propaganda to malign my reputation”.

Reaffirming her commitment to peace and democratic values, Mrs. Ajimobi stressed that she has never been involved in activities capable of undermining the stability of the state.

The statement urged the public to disregard the reports, warning that the spread of false information could generate unnecessary political tension and this would be legally further addressed if not retracted. 

Olubadan Ladoja reacts to alleged plot to unseat Makinde

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has dismissed claims linking him to an alleged plan to unseat Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday by his media aide, Adeola Oloko, the monarch described the allegation as false and urged those behind it not to drag the Olubadan throne into political controversies.

The statement reads partly, “The Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has refuted claims that Kabiyesi was planning to unseat the Oyo State Governor, His Excellency, Engr Seyi Makinde. To say the least, this is a lie.”

The reaction comes amid recent reports of alleged controversy involving both the governor and the monarch over claims of a separate plot to remove Ladoja from the Olubadan stool.

Tribune Online reports that both leaders had earlier dismissed the allegation as baseless, while criticising former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who made the claim publicly.

Fayose had alleged that the Oyo State Government was planning to dethrone the monarch and sanction him over his absence at the elevation ceremony of High Chief Sharafadeen Ali in Ibadan.

However, the Oyo State Government, through the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, denied the claim, stating that no such move had been considered or discussed.

Addressing the fresh allegation, Ladoja maintained that a traditional ruler has no constitutional authority to remove a sitting governor, noting that even the impeachment of a local government chairman is beyond the powers of a monarch.

He also raised concerns over what he described as conflicting narratives surrounding the issue, coming shortly after the earlier claim involving the Olubadan stool and the state government. 

Atiku, Kwankwaso, ADC Chairman strategise ahead of 2027 elections

A former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has intensified consultations with key opposition figures following the defection of former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to the African Democratic Congress.

In a statement on Wednesday, Atiku said he paid courtesy visits to Kwankwaso and the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, in Abuja, describing the meetings as opportunities to chart strategies for good governance and strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I paid a courtesy visit to the residence of my brother and partner, His Excellency Rabiu Kwankwaso. We had quality discussions on the progress of our party, the ADC, and how we must continue the work to ensure good governance and recovery are achieved in good time for the people,” Atiku said.

He added, “Also, this afternoon, I visited the National Chairman of our great party, ADC, Senator David Mark. It was a courtesy call that provided an opportunity to share ideas on how to further strengthen the ADC and restore confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.”

Kwankwaso’s defection on Monday has injected fresh momentum into efforts to build a broad-based opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

Analysts say his entry, along with his extensive grassroots support, bolsters the ADC’s position as a platform for disenchanted politicians and emerging blocs seeking to challenge the ruling party.

The former Kano governor and his supporters were formally received by Mark, who described the development as a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s democracy.

The grand event at Kwankwaso’s Miller Road residence in Kano attracted prominent political figures, including Peter Obi, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

Oyo Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, Joins Governorship Race

Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibarapaland have openly endorsed the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, for the 2027 Governorship race in the State.

This position was made known during a well-attended PDP Ibarapaland Stakeholders’ Zonal Meeting held in Igboora, Ibarapa Central Local Government Area.

The meeting, convened primarily to deliberate on the planned visit of Governor Seyi Makinde to the zone, quickly evolved into a strategic political gathering where party leaders and grassroots mobilisers assessed the future of the party in the state.

In a strong show of unity, stakeholders passed a vote of confidence on the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin commending his leadership style, loyalty to the party, and contributions to legislative stability in Oyo State.

The meeting drew an influential mix of party leaders, government officials, and grassroots politicians.

Among those present were Hon. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju (popularly known as Ibarapakan), representing Ibarapa Central/North Federal Constituency ; the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo and the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke.

Also in attendance was Alhaji Kamoru Adeyemi, PDP Chairman for Oyo South Senatorial District, alongside the three PDP Local Government Party Chairmen from Ibarapa East, Ibarapa North, and Ibarapa Central.

The political leadership at the grassroots was fully represented, with the Chairmen of the three local governments, Hon. Kazeem Arogundade (Ibarapa East), Hon. Lateef Akorede (Ibarapa North), and Hon. Olusola Adeleke (Ibarapa Central) all in attendance.

Other notable stakeholders present included Hon. Yemi Taiwo, Hon. Mrs. Funmilayo Orisadeyi, Hon. Moses Ojoawo, Hon. Dimeji Oladapo, Prince Biodun Labiyi, and Barrister Adekanmbi, among others.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, later proceeded to his constituency in Ibarapa East Local Government, where he attended a separate meeting of PDP stakeholders.

At the gathering, party leaders and loyalists reaffirmed their support for his leadership and ongoing consultations, describing his governorship ambition as a reflection of the collective will of the people.

The meeting also served as a platform to strengthen grassroots mobilization and consolidate unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Peter Obi storms Aba ahead of ADC Presidential Primary

Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, is scheduled to visit Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State, on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

The visit comes as part of his ongoing nationwide consultations ahead of the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to details made available, the event will be held at the Recreation Club, Aba, with proceedings expected to commence by 10:00 a.m.

Obi has recently intensified engagements with key stakeholders across the country as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

As part of this outreach, he was in Kano on a Sallah visit to former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The Aba visit is expected to draw party members, supporters, and political stakeholders from across the State.

Gov. Seyi Makinde Sets Up Committee to Screen PDP Governorship Aspirants in Oyo

The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has constituted a high-level committee to screen aspirants seeking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket ahead of the next election cycle.

The committee is chaired by Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Governor’s Advisory Council.

The panel comprises members drawn from both the PDP Elders Council and the Governor’s Advisory Council, signalling what party insiders describe as a thorough and consultative screening process.

It was gathered that the committee commenced its assignment on Saturday, with some aspirants appearing before it for assessment.

Among those reportedly screened were Hon Adedeji Olajide, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, Bimbo Adekanmbi, and Debo Ogundoyin.

Party sources indicated that the exercise is aimed at evaluating the credentials, experience, and acceptability of the aspirants as PDP prepares to present a strong candidate for the governorship race.

The process is also expected to help foster internal consensus within the party.

The screening exercise is scheduled to continue into next week, with more aspirants expected to appear before the committee.

What caused my disagreement with Gov. Makinde — Ex-Deputy Gov Gbolarumi

Gbolarumi, has said that Gov. Seyi Makinde’s decision to hand pick a successor was what caused the fallout between them.

Gbolarumi gave the explanation while hosting the Executives of the Oyo State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, led by Mr Yinka Adeniran to an Iftar in Ibadan.

The PDP chieftain, who is loyal to the Nyesom Wike faction of the party, said that hitherto his relationship with Gov. Makinde was quite cordial.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the newly inaugurated executive of PDP faction loyal to Wike, led by its chairman, Prof. Raham Akinoso, were also at the Iftar.

He said that majority of the citizens of the state were surprised and have been wondering at what stage the fallout between them started.

Gbolarumi said the disagreement started when Makinde said he would announce his successor to office without consulting the PDP leaders in the state even though he (Gbolarumi) had signified interest to contest.

“He is supposed to sit down with PDP leaders in the state for a discussion on it.

“Look at his sets of Commissioners, SAs and local government chairmen, no input of PDP leaders in those appointments,” he said.

Gbolarumi said that he was one of the founding fathers of PDP in the state; the platform which Makinde used to become the governor of the state in 2019.

He said that the party leaders were satisfied and accepted God’ s decision on Makinde’s emergence.

According to him, the governor’s decision to produce a successor would block their way.

“Or does he want to perish us politically.

“One of the things I am not happy about and I have discussed with him is his saying that he has no God father in politics.

“I told him, I don’t believe in that principle.

“There are one or two even more people that God used for his emergence as governor of the state,” Gbolarumi said.

The former deputy governor said it would be a sin before God for him not to say the truth to the governor as one of the PDP leaders in the state.

Gbolarumi said what was really happening between him and the Makinde wasn’t really a fight but a fight of political interest, adding PDP would be united soon.

“For now our faction is currently in control and in charge of PDP in the state,” he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ, Oyo State Council, Mr Yinka Adeniran commended Gbolarumi for his constant support to the union and pledged accurate and fair reportage of issues in the state.

I Will Defeat Akeredolu, Jegede, Ajayi Boasts

Candidate of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and Deputy Governor of Ondo, Hon Agboola Ajayi, has boasted he would defeat Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and Eyitayo Jegede on Saturday.

Ajayi, who spoke at Owo, in Owo Local Government Area at the round off of his campaign tour, said he is confident of defeating other candidates in the election.

The Ondo Deputy Governor assured adequate security would be provided to protect residents from harassment.

Ajayi warned his supporters not to take arms against anybody but to out and vote.

Former Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, said it was sad that five persons died in the last few weeks due to political violence.

Mimiko stated that electorates were no longer attending political rallies due to violence.

“They should ask Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu why his party members are using guns to pursue members of rival political parties.

“Our party believes that government projects are for the benefit of the people. They should know that there is life after office.”

Ondo state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu refused to shake his Deputy, Agboola Ajayi, after signing a peace accord ahead of the 2020 Ondo State governorship election.

Just a few days to the election and their was mild drama again during the signing of a peace accord to ensure a violence-free election.

The three major contestants, Rotimi Akeredolu of APC, Eyitayo Jegede of PDP, and Agboola Ajayi of ZLP promised to abide by the terms of the accord.

They vow to eschew utterances and conducts that would encourage violence before, during, and after the elections.

At the end of the event as Akeredolu declined a request by the Master of Ceremonies for him to either shake hands, touch elbows, or embrace his ZLP opponent; the state deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi.

He would simply wave at his Deputy, but later go on to exchange pleasantries with PDP candidate, Eyitayo Jegede.

The Chairman, NPC, and former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, who spoke via zoom, urged all stakeholders to commit to the spirit of the accord.

He said,

“The governorship election in Ondo State is only a few days away and we want peace during and after the election.

We want to see Nigeria as a place, where people come out peacefully and vote during the election without deprivation, and Ondo State deserves this.”

Other members of the peace committee include Bishop Mathew Kukah and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.

Don’t Allow APC Rig Ondo Poll, Secondus Urges Supporters

Uche Secondus, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the supporters to come out en masse to protect their votes during the forthcoming election in Ondo state.

He made this call during the opening rally of the party for the Ondo State Governorship election at the M.K.O Abiola Democracy Park in Akure.

While boasting of the support the party enjoys in the state, he declared that the PDP would win the forthcoming governorship election.

“Make sure you vote out the government that has turned Ondo State to a family business, let Buhari know that the only thing left for him is to conduct free and fair elections in Edo and Ondo States.”

Oyo PDP Counters APC’s Stand Over Dissolution Of LG, LCDA Chairmen

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has reacted to statement by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) that Governor Seyi Makinde was wrong to have sacked council chairmen in the state.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Akeem Olatunji, the party said APC was yet to recover from the electoral shock it suffered after the 2019 elections.

The statement read: “The attention of Oyo State PDP has been drawn to a reckless and unguarded press release credited to Oyo State APC in which they kicked against measures to prevent premeditated violence by members of the proscribed NURTW and looting spree in the local councils across the state.

“It is pertinent to note that Oyo State APC leadership is yet to grapple with the fact that its eight-year ignoble reign of suffering, impunity, desecration of traditional institution and unimaginable looting of the state’s resources have come to an end. Hence, their attempt to stifle efforts of Engr Seyi Makinde PDP-led administration to reconstruct and reposition Oyo State to reclaim her lost glory. “

He explained that the dissolution of the local governments and LCDA was long overdue, “as the former Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, knew very well that they were illegal contraptions, created to empower his SENACO faction to the detriment of other tendencies in APC, while all laid down rules, procedures and processes in creating LCDA and organising credible elections were violated…”

Claiming that the recent pockets of violence witnessed in the state, which necessitated the proscription of NURTW could be traced to APC in Oyo state to create artificial unrest to discredit the new government, he said the immediate past administration forgot that the poor populace they once governed was at the receiving end of their crude means of playing opposition.
