Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Osun election has submitted a 1,250 page petition, challenging the results of the July 16 governorship election.
The governor is contesting the results in 749 polling units out of 3,763 on grounds of over-voting and others.
Oyetola’s wife, Kafayat, the APC Chairman in the state, Prince Gboyega Famodun and some members of the state executive council accompanied the governor to the tribunal.
The petition was received by the tribunal secretary.
Governor Oyetola after signing the documents and handed them over to the tribunal secretary, left the venue without addressing journalists.
One of his lawyers, Mr Kunle Adegoke, SAN, told journalists that Oyetola and the APC have a very good case and are ready to prove it beyond reasonable doubt.
“The petitioners have fundamental grounds to pursue the case, saying that with the content of petition they are confident of victory.”, he said.
INEC declared Ademola Adeleke of the PDP winner of the election, with a margin of less than 30,000 votes.
While Adeleke won 403,371 votes in the overall results from LGAs, Oyetola polled 375,027 votes.
